Why We Recommend Learning To Make Your Own Games!

Our Spring Game Jam is still in full force, but why do we love Game Jams so much anyway?

Keep reading to find out why making your own games is both fun and beneficial when it comes to learning to code!

Why you should make your own games

You might recall we talked previously about our top tips for making your own games here on the blog. Now we want to talk about why we think making your own game is a great way to further your learning!

 Test Your Understanding

Our weekly games contain the code card, a great place to find how to change specific parts of our games to make them better.

Starting your own game lets you take all of those ideas and test your understanding, giving you ideas and things to focus on to improve in the long run!

 An Opportunity for Creativity

Starting your own game also comes with a bit more creative freedom than our weekly games!

While we make our games as tweakable as possible, nothing beats being able to take something straight out of your mind and trying to make it yourself in a place with the freedom to fully experiment with how scripts fit together!

 Appreciation for the Details

This is also a great way to gain understanding of what comes together to make a full game!

With our prebuilt weekly games it’s not necessarily easy to spot when a game hits the “fully playable” mark, but by making your own from scratch lets you see all the smaller details that go together to make it all work!

Obviously one thing our members have, whether they’re making their own game or following our weekly games, is access to our STEM certified Mentors! Ready and willing to answer any questions that come along!
